When an exceedance occurs, numbers and data can only tell you so much. Contextual information – such as images, audio, direction-of-arrival, classifications – can show you so much more.
A new update to SiteHive Enviro provides enhanced contextual information, with peak images and audio showing you exactly what caused an exceedance – the loudest or dustiest thing.
Enhanced media – capture the noisiest, dustiest and windiest things!
The SiteHive platform has always captured images and audio to provide powerful context during environmental noise and dust events. An update to SiteHive Enviro and Enviro Pro enhances this further by capturing media at the most impactful moment during an exceedance — so you can see and hear exactly what’s happening at the noisiest or dustiest point.
It also extends that capability beyond noise and dust to weather. So you can capture and identify the noisiest, dustiest and windiest things!
Peak media provides teams with visual and audio evidence of what actually happened — helping investigations move faster and giving teams a platform they can trust to have caught the moment that counted.
See and hear the most impactful moment each monitoring period
For each 15-minute monitoring period, SiteHive identifies and captures the single most impactful moment — giving teams a complete, evidence-backed timeline.
The triggers and media captured for each aspect are outlined below:
| Aspect | Trigger | Media captured |
|---|---|---|
| Noise | LAmax (highest dB) | 1x directional image 1x 6-second audio |
| Dust | PM10 (highest reading) | 2x images (both directions) |
| Noise+Dust | LAmax (highest dB) | 1x directional image 1x 6-second audio |
| Weather | Strongest wind gust | 2x images (both directions) |
| Weather+Dust | Strongest wind gust PM10 (highest reading) | 2x images (both directions) |
More relevant media, faster investigations
Because SiteHive captures the moment that matters most in every period, teams get:
- Faster investigations — the right image and audio are already attached to the moment that needs explaining
- Stronger evidence — reports and compliance documentation reflect peak impact
- Fewer unexplained gaps — every period has relevant media
- A platform teams can trust — confidence that if something significant happened on site, SiteHive captured it.

For teams reviewing hundreds of periods across a project, this adds up to meaningfully less time spent piecing together what happened — and more time spent acting on it.
Providing context to dust, including standalone Dust devices
SiteHive captures peak media for dust, as well as noise. For example, the SiteHive Hexanode Dust device captures images in both directions at the point of highest PM10 reading in each period. This is particularly useful for teams trying to understand where a dust event came from — for example, when distinguishing dust generated on site from dust blown in from a neighbouring source, such as a nearby quarry or unrelated works.
Extending context to weather
Weather is next. Extending peak media to wind gust triggers will mean SiteHive Hexanode Weather and SiteHive Hexanode Weather+Dust can provide the same level of visual evidence for adverse weather moments — helping teams understand not just that conditions changed, but what that looked like on site at the time.
Built for teams who rely on evidence, not just data
Contextual media is available to everyone using SiteHive Enviro and Enviro Pro, and can be especially valuable for SiteHive Enviro Pro users managing larger volumes of monitoring data across a project.
It’s useful for:
- Environmental managers and consultants investigating exceedances
- Projects generating high volumes of noise or dust events
- Teams that need to distinguish site-caused impacts from external sources
- Anyone preparing compliance reporting, client updates or community responses backed by visual and audio evidence.
More contextual insights
The ability to use images and audio to identify peak exceedances quickly and easily is just one element of the powerful contextual insights provided by SiteHive. The following are also provided within the SiteHive platform:
- Direction of arrival mapping
- Automated audio classification
- Automated vibration waveform classification
- Advanced map layers
- Direct integration to specialist tools such as Timescapes and Propeller Aero drone maps.
