What are the Australian Good Design Awards?
Established in 1958, the Australian Good Design Awards are Australia’s longest-running international design awards. They recognise excellence from around the world, setting the global benchmark for design excellence.
Every entry is assessed by an independent jury of more than 100 Australian and international design experts against three criteria: Good Design, Design Innovation and Design Impact.
The 2026 awards are presented under the theme Design that Leads.

Why the jury recognised the next-generation SiteHive Hexanodes
The jury described the SiteHive Hexanode family as:
“A comprehensive design solution that embeds important environmental measuring technology into a well-considered modular package driven by customer insights and multiple iterations.”
The jury also highlighted documented real-world impact, including a 50% reduction in environmental management costs:
“The distinctive form, purposeful functionality, and documented real-world impact, including a 50% reduction in environmental management costs, demonstrate how focused design thinking can simultaneously improve commercial efficiency, environmental outcomes and community trust in a category where design leadership is rarely prioritised. Well done.”
SiteHive Co-founder Ben Cooper-Woolley said the recognition reflects how the devices were developed.
“SiteHive Hexanodes are shaped by years of working on construction and industrial sites, and listening to the people who use our devices every day. We asked what would make environmental monitoring easier, more accurate and more reliable in the field, and designed for that.”
“To have the jury recognise SiteHive as Best in Class, in a category with a wide range of amazing products from all types of industries, is a fantastic result for the whole team!”
“The theme of this year’s awards was “Design that Leads”. We put a lot of innovation, work and thought into delivering new capabilities that can move the industry forward, so we’re really delighted that this has been recognised too.”
What is the SiteHive Hexanode family of devices?
SiteHive Hexanodes are a modular system of environmental monitoring devices that are compact, durable and designed for rapid deployment. The family includes SiteHive Hexanode Noise, SiteHive Hexanode Dust, SiteHive Hexanode Vibration, and SiteHive Hexanode Weather, as well as two combined devices: SiteHive Hexanode Noise+Dust and SiteHive Hexanode Weather+Dust.
Key design features include:
- An omnidirectional acoustic dome, which allows noise devices to deliver consistent, accurate acoustic measurement from every direction.
- Calibration to industry standards, including NATA certification for noise and vibration devices.
- Accurate dust monitoring in all conditions. A new sensor and design that provides five times greater airflow, with reliable measurement in high humidity.
- A compact vibration devices that provides all 3 core vibration measurements in one: structural vibration (PPV), human comfort vibration (VDV), sensitive equipment (VC curves), plus ground-borne noise (LAeq) calculated from vibration data.
- Reliable connectivity. New communication options keep devices connected across urban, underground and remote sites.
- Built to last. Durable, modular components that support maintenance and repair, with devices that can be upgraded and re-used from project to project.
Designed with customers and on real sites
The current range of SiteHive Hexanode devices draws on more than five years of research, on-site experience and ongoing feedback from users. The designs evolved through iterative prototyping and field validation, so each change addressed a real operational challenge, from harsh site conditions to the effort of installation, identifying exceedances and reporting.
The devices were designed in Australia by SiteHive with product development partners Xentronics and DeepDish. All devices work with SiteHive Enviro software, which provides real-time data, contextual information such as images, audio and mapping, alerts and reporting.
What does this mean for customers?
Good design is not just a nice-to-have, and it’s not just about form. It’s an important component of making products fit for purpose; easy and enjoyable to use; and delivering real benefits.
For project teams, the devices are designed to replace complexity with clarity: real-time, reliable data and automated analysis that help people make faster, more confident decisions without needing to be specialists.
And for communities and regulators, accessible, shareable data supports more transparent environmental management.
SiteHive Co-founder Adam Ferguson said customers were at the centre of the design.
“Our customers need data they can trust in conditions that are tough on equipment. SiteHive Hexanodes are quick to deploy, accurate and calibrated to industry standards, so project teams can spend less time managing monitoring and more time acting on what it tells them.”
“We are proud to share this recognition with our design partners, Xentronics and DeepDish, and with every customer who has helped shape these devices.”
